Mercateo proceeds further along the path of internationalisation

Mercateo opens new subsidiary in Great Britain

With its new branch in London, Mercateo has strengthened its presence in the United Kingdom. The operational business is to start in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on 11 March 2014.

With the establishment of Mercateo UK Ltd., a one hundred per cent subsidiary company of Mercateo AG, a period of intense preparation has been successfully concluded. The team led by Caroline Brzezek, who is to take the role of Country Manager in the initial months, has created the structures required for attractively configuring the procurement platform for the British market. “At the moment, over 30 suppliers and around a quarter of a million items are now accessible via the Mercateo UK shop – even though the operational business is only just beginning,” comments Caroline Brzezek on the current situation. The website www.mercateo.co.uk provides British business customers, suppliers and manufacturers access to a platform which combines the benefits of an online shop with a wide range of different e-procurement functions. The offer is naturally going to be extended, and become similar in terms of its scope to that of Mercateo Germany. Existing Mercateo customers with branches in the United Kingdom will benefit from this development in particular. “A procurement solution which is used comprehensively in the purchasing of C-materials enables companies to realise completely different savings potentials,” highlights Brzezek, on the customer wish for a British presence.

Peter Ledermann, Director of Personnel and Finance at Mercateo AG, is the new Managing Director of Mercateo UK Ltd. After Austria, the Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, the British company is now the eighth subsidiary firm. Ledermann views this as being a logical step forwards in terms of the positioning of Mercateo: “We see ourselves as being an international company and want to establish Mercateo beyond national borders. In this context the newly established subsidiary is an important milestone in further building on the lead that Mercateo has as a leading European procurement platform. In addition to this, the Director is confident that the establishment of Mercateo UK Ltd. will lead to a simplification in the cooperation with the English suppliers from a legal point of view, that it will be possible to gain new partners and customers, and that an additional sales market will be opened to internationally active local suppliers.
