From 2 April 2015, international companies will also be able to use Mercateo for their sites in Belgium. Mercateo is responding to increased interest from major corporations in global purchasing systems and processes, and is strengthening its position as an international procurement solution.

Mercateo will be going online with a procurement platform in Belgium on 2 April 2015, entering one of the most important European markets. This is the next stage in the company’s development as an international purchasing solution. This decision was taken in view of the growth in the large business segment of companies, who are connected their ERP system to Mercateo as a system solution and were also looking for a standardised procurement solution for their Belgian subsidiaries.

Especially in the past year, system customers contributed strongly to the growth of Mercateo sales. While in 2013, they still accounted for around 13 percent, this share rose to 27 percent in the past year – and this trend is on the increase. Mercateo is therefore placing its strategic focus on customers that use e-procurement functions to optimise their procurement processes. “Mercateo stands for networking. We have created an infrastructure that enables purchasers, manufacturers, suppliers and service providers to process transactions with one another quickly and easily”, explains Peter Ledermann, director of Mercateo AG. “Companies that operate on international markets want to transfer this model to their national subsidiaries in order to standardise their purchasing processes. That is why it is important for Mercateo to develop new markets and to continue to grow as an international procurement solution”, Ledermann stresses.

Belgium is the twelfth country in which the company has launched its procurement platform for business supplies. At www.mercateo.be, business customers will have access to around two million items from all product categories ranging from office supplies, hardware and software and electrical equipment to facility and building services and industry supplies. In the first phase, those businesses that are connected to Mercateo over the Open Catalog Interface (OCI) will be able to access the Belgium online shop range. This is because of the special requirements posed by the Belgian market – products must be displayed in both Flemish and French. In the medium-term, the Belgian store and the Mercateo procurement solution are to be made available to all business customers.
