These dynamic braking resistors are insulated and can easily be mounted in compact constructions. They are specially constructed for high pulse loads compared to the average load. The nominal load can be improved by forced air cooling or by mounting the resistors on a heat sink. The resistor elements are wirewound on mica support sheets. Lower ohmic values are made with helix wound elements mounted in a ceramic support part. The outer housing is an aluminium profile insulated with micanite sheets on all inner surfaces. The resistor elements are fixed symmetrically in the profile by the mica construction. This ensures a symmetric expansion of the resistors and maximum stability to high load impulses. The aluminium profile with the fixed resistor element is filled with quartz sand. This ensures a minimum change of the resistor surface temperature even if the resistor element reaches its maximum temperature during a pulse load.Compact sizeCool surfaceHigh pulse load capabilityHigh vibration capabilityFully insulated - no external live partsMica insulation ensures high dielectric strengthHigh IP classLow noise levelFlying leadsLow thermal drift of 100 ppm/K ensured by nickel-chrome 8020 alloyThermal relief expansion mounting feetOptional thermal switch for thermal protection is availableAluminium housing ensures high IP ratingThe CAH series is a range of braking resistors from Danotherms medium power range of Alpha aluminium housed compact resistors. They are electrically insulated and feature small dimensions. They can easily be fitted into compact constructions and are especially designed to endure high pulse loads in industrial drive systems. The steady state power range spans from 70 W to 410 W per housing. The pulse load capability is up to 75 times the nominal power for one second every 120 seconds, and 18 times the nominal power for five seconds every 120 seconds, depending on the ohm value and resistor type. Danotherm has developed thermal models for all resistor types and resistor values. By using these models, they are able to predict the temperature rises of the resistor wire and on the surface for all possible load applications.Danotherm CAH brake resistors are ideal for applications in electronic variable speed drives as braking resistors. This allows you to control the speed or position of escalators, elevators, conveyor belts and cranes where regenerated energy requires dissipation. They are also suitable for renewable energy systems such as kite power, solar inverters, solar power, tidal power and wind turbines.
